HAPTA Compliance Food Safety Management & HACCP

People love to eat food and Food Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility! The ISO 22000 takes a Whole Chain Approach to Food Safety, providing a standard that isn’t just for food processors, but goes all the way from the farm to the fork, including Packaging and Ingredient Suppliers, Caterers, Storage & Distribution Facilities, Chemical & Machinery Manufacturers and can be applied to Primary Producers such as farms.
The ISO22000 standard is an ISO/PDTS22003 Accredited Program designed to ensure Safe Food Supply Chains Worldwide.

ISO 22000 extends the Successful Management System Approach of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System Standard which is widely implemented in all sectors, but does not itself specifically address Food Safety by incorporating the Principles of ‘HACCP’.

Hazard & Critical Control Point (HACCP)

HACCP is an Internationally Recognised Method of Identifying & Managing Risk when it comes to working with food. When central to an Active Food Safety Programme, it can provide vendors, the public and government sector bodies with a high degree of comfort that Food Safety is being taken seriously and is Well Managed. The concept is not new however. Researchers & Suppliers to the NASA space programme developed the system to avoid the potentially disastrous consequences of failure above the earth’s atmosphere. Today, many of the world’s best Manufacturers & Vendors use the system as a basis for their Quality Management Programmes.

A Food Safety Programme however does not just stop with HACCP. To be truly effective, sub-systems such as Pest Control, Recall Protocols, Hygiene & Sanitation need to be Developed & Implemented. Additionally, the issue of ensuring that Suppliers & Distributors are also ‘safe’ needs to be addressed through development of ingredient specifications and a Vendor Quality Assurance System.

How to Implement your Food Safety Management.
Firstly: To understand how to implement the ISO 22000 into your workplace you will first need to understand the standard and the task at hand. Purchasing a copy of the standard is a good place to start as this provides a lot of information and guidance on ISO 22000 implementation..

Secondly: Contact and ask HAPTA Compliance to send an Approved and Qualified ISO 22000 consultant to walk you through where your organisation currently sits against the ISO 22000 accreditation requirements and what is then needed to have your organisation meet the ISO 2000 standard.
